Cool Summer Fun Suggestions

The kids are out of school, summer is in full swing, and the question on everyone's mind is, "What do we do?" Well, here are a few suggestions from your favorite Texan.

1. The Beach
Unfortunately not everyone is blessed to live in a state on the coast of the United States, but if you do load up the kids and head to the beach. The beach is always a great family friendly getaway that doesn't cost anything but gas. If your husband or boyfriend likes to fish then throw in the poles for him, load up a bucket and shovel for the kids, and a beach umbrella with your favorite magazines or books for you then you're ready for a day full of fun. Don't forget to pack the coolers with sandwich fixings, juice, and TONS of water because it's HOT outside. Now, if you're living the single life you can enjoy the beach too just load up your car with some of your gal pals in your hottest bathing suits and be prepared to turn the heads of that car full of single guys parked next to y'all.

2. Water Parks
Now if you're like me and water where you can't see your feet freaks you out, or you live in one of those states that doesn't have a beach then the local water park is your next best option! This option is a little more expensive if you have kids but you can always go to your local grocery store to pick up a gift card or buy tickets at a lower price. My favorite water park are those that are attached to a theme/amusement park so you get more bang for your buck; you can get all hot and sweaty riding rides then go cool off at the water park. If riding rides at an amusement park or water park isn't your thing then most water parks here in Texas come with a make shift river that you can hop in a tube and float around all day.

3. Swimming Pool
If you can't find a beach or a water park then your next best option is the city pool, most city pools these days come with attractions like a pool slide, splash pad, and mushrooms for smaller children and Olympic style lanes for the advanced swimmer. For a small admission fee you can play & splash in the water ALL day long.

4. Aquarium or Zoo
If water isn't really your thing or you have small small children and you're afraid to take them around water attractions then your next best option is an aquarium or the zoo. Yes it's a lot of walking, and yes it's hot outside, and yes it's smelly but it's a cost-friendly trip that will tire the kids out and make them ooohhhh and ahhhhh. I'm a big kid at heart and love to see the animals especially the zebras so I have no problem going to the zoo by myself, but if you're self-conscious about being the only adult at the zoo by yourself then grab your favorite niece/nephew or godchild and take them to see the animals at the zoo. You can make it more fun by pointing out the animals from their favorite cartoon show or movie.
